What is Group Therapy?
As the name implies, group therapy entails addressing a common mental health issue within a group setting. In a confidential and safe environment, we gather five or more individuals who share similar concerns so we can explore and develop strategies they can apply to their daily lives. Group therapy offers the benefit of allowing you to share others’ perspectives, learning through observation and realizing that you are not alone. Group therapy is also a cost-effective alternative to individual therapy. Types of Group Therapy
While there are several types of group therapy, most can be categorized into two broad approaches: psychoeducational and process oriented.

In psychoeducational groups, the therapist will provide attendees with information on a specific issue in a more classroom-like setting. Participants are given set goals and instructions on subjects like healthy coping skills. This approach is ideal for people who wish to learn how to manage stress and anger, or life skills such as effective parenting.
- Process-oriented groups, on the other hand, focus on the group experience. In this approach, the therapist acts more as a facilitator to encourage members to engage with the group through discussion and activities. By giving control to the group, we can help with self-confidence issues and other emotional needs.
